Lying 56 km, south of capital Male’, of about 10 hectares of land, home to about 400 local citizens, Vaavu atoll Fulidhoo is widely known for its beautiful white sandy beaches, largely for the splendid azure waters surrounding the island. The crystal clear waters around the island, colourful live corals on the reef, and its rich varieties of tropical fishes making the island worthy of calling its moniker “Wow Fulidhoo”.
Its people care lot about the environment and nature being clean and safe, Fulidhoo being environmental role model banned motor vehicles on the island on its effort to decrease carbon emission and minimising harm to the environment.
Vaavu atoll is frequently visited by fishing enthusiasts, locals and tourists alike, and the atoll boasts widely known fishing spots, furthermore, cruisers tour in the atoll making several dives into unharmed nature reserve rich in flora and fauna. These boats take anchorage in Fulidhoo, making its passengers wander around the island, visit souvenir shops or at times entertain in the evening with traditional music and dance (Boduberu or Lan’giri) event.
Several guest houses are now on the market in Fulidhoo with modern comfort and offer tourists range of exciting activities. Visitors can supplement the itinerary such as snorkelling, scuba diving, fishing, various water sports and much more.
Number of regular ferries run between Male’ and Fulidho offering choices to visitors. Slow ferry takes 3 and half hours to reach, and speed boat ferry reaches in about 60 minutes.
